Tour Overview:
Char Dham Yatra is the classic road tour by Tempo Traveller to travel the four sacred Hindu sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Experience the Garhwali cultures and traditions of Uttarakhand. The group travels in a Tempo Traveller for comfortable convenience over the arduous mountain road. An 11 days journey begins from Delhi, covers the dhams in traditional clockwise sequence, offering an extended and religiously rewarding experience before continuing further on to Jaipur.
Itinerary Details:
Day 1: Delhi to Haridwar Transfer
Begin the tour with a road transfer from Delhi to Haridwar, 5 to 7 hrs. 210 kms. Haridwar is one of the seven holiest cities in the country, located on the sacred Ganges River. Upon your arrival, check into your accommodation. The evening is spent at the famous Har ki Pauri ghat for a holy dip and to witness the magical evening Ganga aarti. Stay comfortable overnight.
Day 2: Barkot Transfer & Yamunotri Dham Worship
A long and major day with both a significant road transfer and the first darshan. Take a drive from Haridwar to Barkot, 6 to 7 hrs. and 180 kms. Barkot is the base for the Yamunotri Dham trek. Enjoy a 6 km trek or pony ride to Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. After the darshan, return to Barkot for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Uttarkashi Transfer
Today is more about recovering from the exertions of the previous day and involves a short, scenic drive from Barkot to Uttarkashi, 4 hours. Uttarkashi lies on the banks of the Bhagirathi River and is considered an important holy town. It is also known as “Mini Kashi.” The afternoon is planned for rest and preparation for the Gangotri Dham Darshan.
Day 4: Gangotri Darshan
The day is planned for the second-holiest shrine. You will take a drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri in the early morning. Gangotri is the divine source of the River Ganga. Devotees take a sacred bath in the Bhagirathi River and visit the Gangotri Temple, dedicated to the Goddess Ganga. After finishing the ceremonies, return to Uttarkashi for a relaxing night stay.
Day 5: Guptkashi Transfer
This is an important day for a long travel of 9 to 10 hrs., 230 kms, as the Tempo Traveller swiftly takes you to the group from the Gangotri to the base of Kedarnath. The stop will be Guptkashi, one of the major towns in the Mandakini River Valley and serves as the principal center for pilgrims on the tour to Kedarnath.
Day 6: Kedarnath Transfer
The toughest and most spiritual day of Yatra. Today you will leave for a roadhead to Sonprayag or Gaurikund. From there, you will begin a 16 to 18 kms trek uphill to the Kedarnath Temple, one of Lord Shiva’s twelve Jyotirlingas. The night is spent in simple accommodations near the temple, preparing for early Darshan.
Day 7: Guptkashi Return
Following the early morning Darshan and worship at the Kedarnath Temple, you will begin the long trek/descent back to the road head. The waiting Tempo Traveller will then bring the group back to Guptkashi, where you may rest after the physically demanding visit.
Day 8: Joshimath Transfer
Today, the journey furthers to the final Dham. Take a drive from Guptkashi to Joshimath, 5 to 7 hrs. and 180 kms. Joshimath is also a very important holy city, the winter abode of Lord Badrinath and is also believed to be the last gateway to the Badrinath Temple.
Day 9: Badrinath Darshan
This is the last stage of this tour, you will be driving from Joshimath to Badrinath, 2 hrs. away. Badrinath is a dwelling of Lord Vishnu. Devotees first take a holy bath at Tapt Kund, a thermal spring and then offer prayers to the Badrinarayan Temple. Mana Village is often included in the excursion. Return to Joshimath for an overnight stay.
Day 10: Rishikesh Transfer
After a healthy breakfast, you will be driven to Rishikesh, a 8 to 10 hrs. of journey by Tempo Traveller. The vehicle brings the group down from the Himalayas to the foothills of Rishikesh, “Yoga Capital of the World.” Spend time relaxing or shop for souvenirs along the Ganga River. Stay overnight comfortably.
Day 11: Jaipur Departure
The tour ends here as it involves a departure to Delhi and then a homebound journey back to Jaipur. The road trip would be from Rishikesh to Delhi and then a transfer to a train or bus, or a last flight from Delhi to Jaipur. This will take around 10 to 12 hrs., approximately. The tour would end upon arrival in Jaipur after this 11-day pilgrimage tour.
